“J DILLA DID NOT CHANGE YOUR LIFE”

J Dilla did not change your life. You just happened to buy a Dilla t-shirt and download his discography. I’m not going to front and say he changed mine, because he didn’t. I’ll tell you what he did do, he opened doors to a different world that was relatively untouched to me. He made me respect the producer more than a normal person usually would. His beats were so fucking weird that it kept me waiting for more. What I’m trying to get at here is, if you’re going to support an artist, don’t support them just because it’s the “in” thing to do, support them because they compose dope, classical, weird, timeless, music. I see a lot of posers walking around claiming that they know EVERYTHING about Dilla. When they know damn right they never discovered him until after he passed. People get tested, and it’s up to that person if they want to keep it real or look like a trend hopper. I respect, appreciate, and love Dilla’s work, but the truth is, he did not change my life… yet.
